I'm a Christian and I will say tithing is Biblical and the Bible does say to give 10 percent of all your increase; however, what these people are doing in the Kenneth Copeland Ministries is down right criminal and pure evil. Swindling people in giving all their money so he can buy nice things like a private jet, nice mansions etc etc under the guise of tithing to God. Kenneth Copeland is 100 percent a false prophet and while I'm not God I would venture to say he is not a godly person. Also telling someone that the reason why they weren't healed is because they have unforgiveness in their heart or they didn't sow into the Kingdom of God enough is extremely evil and not at all Biblical. God doesn't heal by merit or how good you've been. God heals because it is his will. Granted we don't even know why some are healed and others aren't. God is mysterious and his ways are not our ways. Some things are not meant for us to understand.

Tithing is a thing in the mormon church as well. I don't remember if it's required or not because I was so young when I was active in the church. But it's messed up. I don't judge people who are still mormon but the system is deeply flawed. As someone who has grown up in a very traditional catholic environment (borderline cultish at times), even they never put too much emphasis on tithing. Even in the strictest churches I have encountered, it was treated as something you do only if you are able to. And these churches were run by South American immigrants that literally had no money.

I lived just 5 minutes away from Copeland’s ministry compound growing up and my maternal grandfather was a fundamental baptist pastor. One of the things I heard more than anything else is, “God provides” and it makes me so fucking angry every time. It’s absolute defeatism in my opinion. Why try when God does the work?

I’m an ordained minister from the UK. I don’t believe in hell. But I do believe there will be some form of punishment for Copeland and others like him. I can’t describe to you the pain and anger he and others make me and many of my fellow ministers in Christ feel; exploiting the poor and desperate for personal gain is the opposite of the Gospel. Also a couple of points; Hila, you mentioned your mum bringing you up and teaching you Jewish principles but you’re not sure it’s the same with Jesus. Are you aware that Jesus was a Jewish rabbi? So the upbringing and principles would be the same. Similarly tithing is a principle taken from the Jewish Torah (Christianity is a continuation of the Jewish faith): but the purpose was to give a portion of your wealth into the central pot which would be used to feed the poor, support widows, help immigrants etc. As well employ a priest on a ‘stipend’ (simple wage) to perform religious ceremonies as well as distribute the other resources to all who needed it. Thanks for helping expose this and in particular for you and your team’s grace towards genuine people of faith. I promise we’re even angrier than you.

As a side not I'm really glad you are opening an honest dialogue about someone so crooked trying to hide behind "God". My dad, after watching both of his parents suffer and die terribly from cancer, just died from it in October after fighting against it for about a year. And he really believed God was going to heal him. And of course the preachers he watched on tv were saying the same things this guy does. I can't put in words the fear and desperation I saw in my dad after being told he was going to die.
